FormatterHQ

Content & acceptable use policy

Last updated

Effective date: September 26, 2026

FormatterHQ lets you save the contents of a tool and share it with a link (“snippets”). This acceptable use policy explains what may and may not be shared and how to report problems. It forms part of our terms of service, and reflects the obligations of intermediaries under the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021.

What snippets are for

Snippets exist so developers can share code, configuration and data samples: a JSON payload that fails to parse, a SQL query to review, a regular expression to discuss. Keep them relevant to software development and data work.

Prohibited content

You must not save or share content that:

  • contains malware, viruses, ransomware, webshells, crypto-miners, exploit kits or any code designed to damage, disrupt or gain unauthorised access to computers or data;
  • is used for phishing or fraud, such as fake login pages or pages impersonating a bank, company or person;
  • contains other people’s personal data, credentials, API keys or confidential information without authorisation;
  • infringes copyright, trademarks or other intellectual-property rights;
  • is obscene, pornographic, paedophilic, harmful to children, harassing, defamatory, hateful, or promotes violence, money laundering or gambling;
  • is spam, advertising, link farming or search-engine manipulation;
  • impersonates another person or knowingly spreads false or misleading information;
  • threatens the unity, integrity, defence, security or sovereignty of India, friendly relations with foreign States or public order;
  • otherwise violates any applicable law.

Other prohibited uses

  • Using network lookup or link-checking tools to scan, probe or attack systems you do not own or have permission to test.
  • Automated bulk use, scraping or requests that overload the Service or bypass rate limits.
  • Attempting to bypass content scanning, security controls or account restrictions.

How we enforce this policy

Every saved snippet is scanned automatically. Content identified as malicious is rejected; suspicious content is hidden from search engines, shown with a warning and never runs automatically until reviewed. We may remove content, disable links, suspend accounts or block repeat offenders without notice, and we cooperate with lawful requests from authorities. Removed content and related records may be preserved for 180 days as required by law.

Reporting

Use the Report button on any shared snippet, or email hello@formatterhq.com with the link and the reason. Reports are acknowledged within 24 hours and resolved within 15 days; content that exposes the private area of a person, shows full or partial nudity, or impersonates a person in sexual acts is removed within 24 hours of a complaint. See grievance redressal.
