Cookie policy

Effective date: September 26, 2026

This cookie policy explains how FormatterHQ uses cookies and similar browser storage, and how you can control them. It forms part of our privacy policy.

What cookies and local storage are

Cookies are small text files a website asks your browser to store and send back on later requests. Local storage is a similar browser feature that keeps small pieces of data on your device without sending them to the server.

Strictly necessary cookies (always on)

NamePurposeDuration
formatterhq-sessionKeeps your session and sign-in workingUp to 2 hours of inactivity
XSRF-TOKENProtects forms against cross-site request forgerySession
remember_web_…Keeps you signed in if you tick “Remember me”Up to 400 days, or until you sign out

Preferences stored on your device (local storage)

KeyPurpose
theme, theme-prefRemembers light or dark mode
tool-layoutRemembers side-by-side or stacked editors
recent-toolsShows the tools you used recently
cookie-consentRemembers whether you accepted or rejected optional cookies

These never leave your browser and are not used for tracking.

Advertising cookies (third parties)

When advertising is shown, Google and its partners may set cookies such as __gads, __gpi, __eoi and IDE to deliver, measure and — where you have allowed it — personalise ads, and to limit how often you see an ad. Visitors in the EEA, UK and Switzerland are asked for consent before personalised advertising cookies are used. You can manage personalised ads at Google Ads Settings and learn more at policies.google.com/technologies/ads.

Analytics cookies (optional)

We use Google Analytics to count visits and see which tools are used, in aggregated form. It sets cookies such as _ga and _ga_*. The content you paste into tools is never sent to Google Analytics; it receives the pages you visit and the name of the tool you used, along with standard browser and device information.

Visitors in the EEA, UK and Switzerland: analytics and advertising cookies are only set after you choose Accept in the cookie banner. Elsewhere they are on by default and you can switch them off by choosing Reject. Our site uses Google Consent Mode, so Google's tags respect your choice. Learn more at How Google uses information from sites that use its services.

Security and sign-in services

If bot protection (Cloudflare Turnstile) is enabled on forms, or you sign in with Google or GitHub, those providers may set their own cookies needed to deliver that service.

How to control cookies

  • Use Cookie settings at the bottom of any page to accept or reject optional analytics and advertising cookies, or to change an earlier choice. Rejecting also deletes the Google Analytics cookies already set.
  • Use your browser settings to block or delete cookies and local storage. Blocking strictly necessary cookies will prevent sign-in and forms from working.
  • Opt out of personalised advertising using the Google Ads Settings link above, or aboutads.info and youronlinechoices.eu.
  • Clear this site’s local storage from your browser’s site settings to reset preferences.
