Online image tools that keep your photos on your device
Every tool in this collection processes images inside your browser using the built-in canvas and file APIs. Your photos are never uploaded to a server, so there is no waiting for uploads, no file-size quota and no copy of your pictures left on someone else's machine. That makes these online image tools a good fit for screenshots of internal dashboards, product photos before launch, or personal pictures you would rather not share.
Which image tool do you need?
- Change the file format. Use JPG to PNG when you need lossless edits or transparency later, PNG to JPG to shrink photos for email, and PNG to WebP or JPG to WebP for faster web pages.
- Make files smaller. The image compressor lets you trade quality for size with a live before-and-after preview, and the image resizer scales large camera photos down to the dimensions your site actually displays.
- Edit and prepare. Crop, rotate, flip or apply filters before publishing.
- Privacy clean-up. The EXIF viewer shows camera model, date and GPS location stored in a photo; the EXIF remover strips it before you share the file.
- Website assets. Generate a complete favicon set, optimize SVG icons with the SVG optimizer, or create placeholder images for mock-ups.
Choosing the right format
| Format | Best for | Transparency | Compression |
|---|---|---|---|
| JPG | Photos | No | Lossy, very small files |
| PNG | Screenshots, logos, UI | Yes | Lossless, larger files |
| WebP | Web images of any kind | Yes | Lossy or lossless, usually smallest |
| GIF | Simple animations | 1-bit | 256 colours only |
| SVG | Icons and illustrations | Yes | Vector, scales without blur |
Tips for better results
Resize before you compress: halving the width and height removes three quarters of the pixels, which saves far more than lowering JPG quality. Keep an original copy, because every lossy save throws detail away. For images shown on retina screens, export at twice the displayed size and let the compressor bring the file size back down.
Converters read only the first frame of an animated GIF and do not carry over EXIF metadata, so check the output if either matters to you.
