Wi-Fi QR Code Generator

This WiFi QR code generator lets guests scan and join your network, with no spelling out long passwords. Works with the built-in camera on current iPhone and Android phones.

How to use the Wi-Fi QR Code Generator

  1. Enter the Network name (SSID) exactly as it appears in the Wi-Fi list, including capital letters.
  2. Type the Password and choose the Security type (WPA/WPA2/WPA3 for almost all modern routers).
  3. Tick Hidden network only if your router does not broadcast the name.
  4. Check the scan test badge, then download a PNG or SVG and print it or show it on a screen.

WiFi QR code generator: create a code in seconds

A Wi-Fi QR code stores your network name, password and security type in a standard format that phone cameras understand. When a guest scans it, the phone shows a "Join network" prompt — no typing of a 20-character password, no mistakes between l and 1. This Wi-Fi QR code generator builds that code for you and checks that it decodes correctly.

What is inside the code

The data follows the widely supported WIFI: syntax:

WIFI:T:WPA;S:MyHomeWiFi;P:correct-horse-battery;;
  • T — security: WPA (also covers WPA2 and WPA3), WEP or nopass for an open network.
  • S — the SSID (network name).
  • P — the password, omitted for open networks.
  • H:true — added only for hidden networks.

Backslashes, semicolons, commas, colons and double quotes in the name or password must be escaped with a backslash. The tool does this automatically, which avoids the most common reason home-made Wi-Fi codes fail.

Where to use it

  • A framed card in a guest room, holiday rental or meeting room.
  • The counter of a café, shop or waiting room, next to the guest network name.
  • An onboarding document for new employees on the guest or IoT network.

Use a separate guest network where possible: anyone who can photograph the code can read the password from it.

Printing and display

Download the SVG version for printing: it scales to any size without blurring, so the same file works for a table tent, an A4 sign or a sticker. A width of 3–4 cm is comfortable to scan from arm's length. Add a short caption such as "Scan to join Wi-Fi" and, for guests whose phones cannot scan, also print the network name and password in text. If you prefer to show the code on a tablet or TV, the PNG download at 1024 px is sharp enough for most screens.

Troubleshooting

If the phone reports that it cannot join, compare the SSID character by character — names are case-sensitive and trailing spaces count. Some older Android phones need a QR scanning app instead of the camera. For other content, such as a link to your menu, use the general QR code generator; to check what an existing sticker contains, use the QR code reader.

Privacy

Your network name and password are turned into a QR code locally in your browser, and nothing is transmitted to our servers while you type or download. Save & Share is different: the link stores the form, including the network name and password, on our server, so do not use it for a network whose password must stay private.

Frequently asked questions

Does a Wi-Fi QR code work on iPhone?
Yes. The Camera app on iOS 11 and later recognises Wi-Fi QR codes and offers to join the network. Current Android phones support it in the camera or in the Wi-Fi settings scanner.
Is it safe to put my Wi-Fi password in a QR code?
The password is stored as plain text inside the code, so anyone who scans or photographs it can read it. Display it only where you would also write the password down, ideally for a separate guest network.
Which security type should I pick for WPA3?
Choose WPA/WPA2/WPA3. The QR format uses the single value WPA for all of them and the phone negotiates the actual protocol with the router.
Will the QR code still work if I change my password?
No. The password is part of the code, so you need to generate and print a new one after changing it.
